Harry’s business trip

One Monday afternoon, Harry the Hire Car was towed back to the Garage by Ben the Breakdown Truck. Harry was in a very bad state, both of his headlights were smashed, the front bumper had a big dent, and all his tyres are punctured.

“What has happened to you?” everybody in the Garage cried out in surprise.
“Don’t ask him, he had a hair-raising trip!” Ben said, “The two businessmen hired him today turned out to be bank robbers.”
“Bank robbers!!!” everybody was shocked.
“And very bad drivers too!” Harry was angry.

It began very early in the morning; two young men came to hire a self-drive car for a business trip, so Harry’s driver gave the key to the men and said,
“Have a nice journey,” to them and Harry.

Harry looked at the two well-dressed men carrying suitcases in their hands, he thought it was the usual businessmen going to meetings somewhere, except they looked very young, but these days there’re plenty of young entrepreneurs, nothing special about it. The two men seemed to be in a hurry, they drove away at once.

The traffic was easy, the two men started to speed up and headed to town centre. They came to a big bank and stopped in front of the cash machines outside the bank. The men in the passenger seat got out, he walked to the cash machine and gingerly doing something with the machine. Harry waited. After five minutes, he returned to the car with a big bundle of cash; the driver immediately drove away without delay.

Next they drove a little way to another bank. The passenger got out of the car, and went to the cash machine again; then they proceeded to yet another bank, and more banks after that. Harry wondered why they need all those money for.

They then rushed to the next town and straight to more cash machines again. After been through several towns and countless of cash machines, they drove to a quiet road and stopped.

“We got get out of these clothes quickly,” the passenger man said.
“No, put the money in the sacks first,” the other said as he opened the suitcases.
Wow! The two suitcases full of money from the cash machine. They transferred the money into two black knapsacks. Suddenly, Harry heard the police siren from a distance.

“Police, quick, we’ve got to run,” the driver said, threw the empty suitcases to the roadside and started Harry; they drove away. Harry realised these two men were no businessmen, they were bank robbers!

The police siren was getting louder and sounded nearer. The driver speeded up faster and faster, zigzagging in and out of the main roads trying to shake off the police car. The police siren sounded so near that Harry was sure they must be chasing these two robbers. Harry was very nervous.

“Clunk!” Harry crashed on a post box on the pavement, his left headlight was smashed and a big dent appeared on the front bumper. The driver took no notice of that. The police car was following behind.

“Clunk!” Harry hit on a lamp post, his right headlight was smashed. The driver drove on recklessly. Suddenly Harry saw another police car coming towards them from the front. The driver panicked, and turn into a narrow one-way street on the side.

About a hundred yards into the street, Harry came to a halt with all four tyres punctured by the stinger, Several policemen sprang out of nowhere, and surrounded Harry. They arrested the two bank robbers and recovered the money for the banks, then contacted the Garage to send a breakdown truck for Harry, thus how Ben came to the rescue.

Everybody in the Garage were very sympathetic to Harry, they comforted him. Harry got over the shock, but still felt angry.
“Phew! Being bank robbers are bad enough, but being a bad driver really is simply not acceptable! Look at me,” Harry was quite upset.
Harry’s driver came to gave him a thorough check up.
Harry

“A business trip! Indeed. Look at the state of you! Where did they ever learn to drive?” He said with an unbelieving expression on his face, “Don’t worry, I’ll give you a good makeover, Harry, you’ll be as good as new very soon.”
“Thank you, that would be good,” Harry relaxed a little.
